Google tests new mobile device to outsmart iPhone

Employees of cyber giant Google Inc. are right now busy testing a mobile device that runs on its Android operating system, in its continued endeavor to outsmart rival Apple Inc.'s iPhone. Recently Google is pushing hard to bite into the Wi-Fi market and the latest series of tests confirms its validity.

According to top industry source, this new device couples hardware built by an undisclosed partner with Google’s own Android software. This software is critical in Google's renewed efforts to make its highly popular search engine and other related services accessible on mobile phones as also previously available on home PCs.

With Christmas bells ringing, Google handed out this new device to the employees all over the world, in order to conduct a test drive. The aim was to obtain a quick feedback from the employees on the new device. Based on the feedback about this new device, Google plans to implement further improvements in its system.

As a part of their New Year resolution, Google plans to sell this new device early next year directly to the customers instead of marketing them through some Wi-Fi carrier. According to a top Google professional, such a drastic move would mean that Google would go nose to nose with Apple's iPhone in the coming months.

Earlier Google’s Android phone was launched in September 2008. This android version popularly known as “G1” was sold by T-Mobile in the US. Only last month Verizon launched its Wi-Fi range .The Verizon “Droid”, is still the first smart phone to run on Android 2.0 from Google.

With the festive weekend just around the corner, the competition is becoming tougher by the day. You can expect a complete range of new mobile devices based on Wi-Fi rolling out this Christmas. Just say “Merry Christmas” and get started with the new “Google baby”.
