Kodak and Samsung duel rocks Christmas circuit

The latest buzz in the technical circuit is the patent dispute between Digital Camera makers Samsung and Kodak. Earlier, Samsung Electronics suffered a setback when a senior ruling issued the electronic giant an ultimatum to settle disputes with Eastman Kodak Co. over a patent deal on its LED display units for their advanced range of Digital Cameras.

According to a latest report from the Digital Camera industry, Samsung Electronics, one of the biggest names in the field of hi-tech electronic gadgets, approved Kodak an undisclosed amount of money as a payment to resolve their patent deal.

Samsung, the household name in the domain of digital imaging has reportedly agreed to pay this lump sum amount to Kodak, which will further be credited from a cross-licensing agreement between the two leading players in the Digital Camera circuit.
A report from Dow Jones, confirmed that following the dispute between the two tech-giants, shares in Kodak were up by 3.7%, whereas, shares in Samsung were not so enterprising. Samsung however, objected to this news quoting it as an insensible rumor.

Only this month, a judge representing the International Trade Commission dealt Samsung a blow in the suit, ruling that the electronic giant had infringed on two separate Kodak patents. That decision would be further sent to the full commission, which would decide when to advocate the ruling.

Earlier, Kodak filed suit against both LG Electronics and Samsung, but later settled with LG. According to their settlement, Kodak accepted a deal to sell its organic LED display units to LG.

This technology makes Digital Camera screens more thinner and energy efficient than regular LED screens. It also set up a cross-licensing settlement with LG that would give both the companies wide access patents of one another, plus the royalties.
According to the latest reports, the particulars of Kodak's possible settlement with Samsung weren't disclosed. However, you can certainly guess that once executed, they will certainly drop the patent case.

With Christmas already setting in, you can well imagine the duel between Samsung and Kodak stealing all the attention in the Digital Camera world. Just wrap your Christmas garb and wait for more interesting news to roll out from the world of digital imaging.
