Yahoo-Craiglist spat heats up Christmas fever

With the festive week approaching, online gossips are making rounds in the tech-circuit. The latest online buzz is Craiglist`s banning of Yahoo sites and services.

Worried? Confused? Well, take a second look, the news might just turn up to be another hoax to fool you this Christmas. The recent statement from Craiglist confirms its falsity. The largest Internet classified site recently disclosed that a possible ban on Yahoo sites and services was imminent after site developer Romy Maxwell meshed up Craiglist services using Yahoo pipes.

However, this proved to be a fake threat to the Internet giant from the online-classified leader. Just two weeks down the line and Craiglist is already up with Yahoo services under its huge banner. Yahoo never claimed to be discontinued from Craiglist amidst several online community posts.
News from various quarters of the Internet circuit beamed on with inquisitive thoughts and suggestions about Yahoo’s possible walkout from Craiglist following the spat between the two houses prior to Christmas.

While Craigslist kept mum about the “ban issue”, it did not really surprise the online developers. Even, Craiglist CEO Jim Buckmaster explained the company’s rationale on the next day through his personal blog post.
The Yahoo ban issue over Craiglist domain created major headlines in the Internet circuit only to surprise the online community at large. However, the actual proceedings were held back from public knowledge.

Only recently, the news spilled out from various Internet sources that Yahoo is all geared up to counter this rampant gossip about its possible breakup from Craiglist. Even a top Yahoo source quoted that the cyber giant had no further intention to discontinue its association from the online-classified giant.
Now, with Christmas just a week away and with both the houses playing hide and seek for over few weeks, you can surely expect to find more crispy gossips on your Christmas platter. Enjoy a sumptuous Christmas feast.

Citysearch and Twitter Team Up to Offer Business Tools

After the historic deal between Microsoft and Yahoo another bang has cracked the world of Internet. It’s the partnership between Citysearch and Twitter offering some clues about Twitter’s long-awaited paid accounts for businesses.

CitySearch has announced that it will provide the businesses on its site a few tools to help them make use of Twitter. They also confirmed that more tools would be coming soon. The tools catalogue includes some that sound a lot like what Twitter has repeatedly said it will offer businesses for a fee.

From Citysearch’s web site businesses will now be able to write tweets from their Citysearch page across the Internet. They can even create an Internet account on Twitter. It will be possible to sign up for Twitter without going to Twitter.com.

Citysearch wants to become a directory among social media listings. This is because when someone looks for a business on Twitter or Face book page, they can find it on Citysearch. It will also be useful on Citysearch’s mobile application because people who want to tweet about a restaurant or bar while they are out can easily find the required place in Twitter’s page on Internet.

According to a spokesperson, Citysearch’s new offering is the first step in a plan to offer small businesses a bunch of information to help them “understand when and how their business is being talked about, across the Web.” This will include analysis of what people are saying and whether the sentiments are positive or negative.

These matches up with what Twitter’s co-founders have said Twitter will eventually do, and officials from the firm have confirmed this idea. Let’s hope that the synthesis of this business deal takes the two companies a long way ahead.

New E- Book Service Set to be Launched by Google

Your scope of choice as an e- book reader will only increase as one of the leading search engines of the world, Google.com looks all set to launch its e- book service. As the Internet is overloaded with new vistas of information every single day, another new e- book service will provide an additional edge to digital reading. By early 2010 the list of E- book service providers on the Internet will only expand as research have shown that the reader base is also on the up.

E- Books provides a whole new edge to reading as you do not have to access a library for that favorite book of yours or buy it from a book shop. You have a wide array of books to choose from your desired subject, order and buy it according to your own requirements. The various platforms of communication are undergoing a symbolic change and you can log onto Google’s fascinating repertoire of e- books for a treasured reading experience.

You can buy your coveted e- books directly from Google or other outlined vendors and a specific search category will be installed to implement the process. Currently, after an in- depth research procedure, partnerships are being created with the publishers who possess exclusive digital rights on the books. More than 500,000 books will be launched and provide the Google brand name another facelift in the market. If we go by the current market stats, Amazon. Com is one of the leading players in the segment and they have a fair bit of challenge to withstand in the coming days. As there are numerous retailers who are available round the world, Google will tie up with them and create an exclusive e- book platform. The already functional Android Operating system from Google will be used to make this project a global triumph and readers will usher it with fervent enthusiasm from all corners of the world.

Microsoft and Yahoo Join Hands

The pulsating race for being the numero uno search engine continues among the web giants. In order to emerge as a frontrunner in the web world, new business strategies and techniques are planned by the key players. Deals, acquisitions and buyouts figure in the list of plans as the Internet evolves as one of the most powerful global mediums.

Microsoft and Yahoo has finally tied their on and off relationship into a new 10-year deal to compete with Google.Microsoft made a $47.5 billion hostile offer during the spring of the year 2008, to buy Yahoo. But Microsoft abandoned the offer after a firm four-month battle. The two companies announced a more limited deal on July 29, 2009 and a partnership in Internet search and advertising. The deal was mainly intended to create a stronger rival to the industry powerhouse Google.

Finally on 4th of December, 2009 two Internet magnets Yahoo and Microsoft announced the big deal that would transform their “search platforms into a market competitor.” Yahoo Search will be powered by Microsoft while Yahoo gets a revenue sharing agreement.

One question can arise after going through the whole story that how will Wall Street react? While the shareholders and investors of Microsoft had a mildly positive reaction to the deal, Yahoo shares sunk by billions of dollars. It received a big hit in annual revenues, 88% of the search-generated ad revenues from its own sites for the first 5 years of the 10-year deal, much higher than industry standards.

Still, we don’t outline any doubt with the assessment that the two companies are probably better off together than apart. Both companies have an ambition to make the partnership work in the long-term with a 10 year search deal where revenue will be shared. Surely, Google will keep its fingers crossed or it can look for a new deal to outdo Microsoft and Yahoo.
